BASF's soyabean agreement with Embrapa will last until June 2027

BASF has signed a deal to market the first genetically modified crop developed in Brazil. The company has reached an agreement with the Brazilian agricultural research corporation, the Embrapa, on the development and marketing of GM imidazolinone herbicide-tolerant soybeans. Successful trials have been carried out in the past few years, BASF says. The partnership envisages that the new GM soybeans will be available to seed producers in 2010 or 2011, and to Brazilian farmers by 2012. "We are aiming for the 15-20% share of the Brazilian market that is not based on glyphosate applications," the company told Agrow. The contract will last until June 2027, it adds....
