MEPs: Cut pestice use

The European Parliament's Environment Committee has called for an EU-wide target to cut pesticide use by 25% in five years and by 50% in ten years. It has also urged the introduction of EU-wide 10-metre buffer zones and taxes on pesticides, together with a ban on pesticide use in areas used by the general public. At its June meeting, the Committee voted for these changes and other amendments to the European Commission's proposed EU thematic strategy on sustainable pesticide use. The European Crop Protection Association (ECPA) has reacted with "disappointment" to the Committee's decisions....
