Brazil's generic pesticide registration process is speeding up as authorities promised. They granted eight approvals last month for the manufacture of generic pesticides. Approvals in the last three months doubled the number of generic registrations to 20, covering 17 active ingredients. The Ministries of Health and of the Environment will assess the formulated products for each of the registrations. Seven of the 20 have received formulated product approvals. The system came into force in October 2005 and Brazil passed Decree 5,981 in December last year in order to amend and speed up the system (Agrow No 510, p 15). The President's Ministry, the Casa Civil, promised 15 generic registrations per month....
