WHO: "Lowering home pesticide usage can curb high China suicide rate"

The Chinese authorities should place restrictions on domestic storage of pesticides in a bid to reduce suicide rates, says Dr Henk Bekedam, the UN WHO's representative in China. "Strategies that ensure the safe use of pesticides and restrict their easy availability at home will not only enhance food safety, but also help to address the high level of suicides in rural areas," he said at a meeting of the Codex Alimentarius Commission's Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) in Beijing in May....
