MEPs stand firm on 91/414 changes

Stricter control

Members of the European Parliament's Environment Committee are making a second attempt to impose stricter conditions on agrochemical approvals. The MEPs started discussions in October on a new set of amendments to the European Commission's proposed revision of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414). Most of the amendments seek to reintroduce changes that the Parliament called for in October 2007, such as greater efforts to remove hazardous pesticides. Such moves were rejected by EU Ministers when they agreed their own amended version of the Commission's proposals earlier this year (Agrow No 546, p 8)....
