GM maize gets the green light

Brazil has approved its first genetically modified maize lines for commercial planting. The country's first two GM maize crops will be Bayer CropScience's glufosinate-tolerant LibertyLink (T25) and Monsanto's insect-resistant Guardian/Yieldgard (MON810) maize. The 11-Ministry national biosafety council, the CNBS, ratified the approvals this month by seven votes to four, the state news agency, Agencia Brasil, reports.
