Syngenta signs biotech deal with Athenix

Syngenta has entered into an agreement with the US biotechnology company, Athenix (Research Triangle Park, North Carolina), to develop genetically modified pest-resistant maize and soybeans. Athenix will screen its microbial collection to identify genes for the control of corn rootworms (Diabrotica spp), European corn borers (Ostrinia nubilalis) and other lepidopteran pests in maize, and soybean cyst nematodes (Heterodera glycines) in soybeans. Athenix will conduct initial development of the gene leads and pass them to Syngenta for further development....
