| AENDA: Approvals are the first for the active ingredients under the system |
Brazil registered three generic pesticides under its equivalence testing system last month. The approvals are the first for the active ingredients under the system, according to Brazil's generic industry association, the AENDA. They are also the first equivalence registrations this year and come after moves to speed up the process (Agrow No 510, p 15). Only nine approvals had been made in the previous 18 months.
Italian agrochemical company Chemia (Sant'Agostino, Ferrara) gained approval for the acaricide, cyhexatin. The hazardous pesticide is covered by international agreements on prior informed consent and persistent organic pollutants. Chemtura received approval for the plant growth regulator, flumetralin. Brazilian agrochemical company Cross Link (Barueri, Sao Paulo) received registration for a generic version of Dow AgroScience's herbicide, picloram. The Ministries of Health and of the Environment will assess the formulated products for each of the ais.
The registrations bring the approval count to twelve, covering ten ais, according to the AENDA. Seven of the registrations have also gained the go-ahead for a formulated product.
