The US Senate passed PRIA II on August 2nd

A coalition of industry and environmentalist groups has welcomed the passage of legislation by both houses of Congress to reauthorise the 2003 Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA). The law introduced pesticide registration fees and committed the EPA to make appoval decisions within specific timeframes (Agrow No 434, p 15). It was due to expire in 2008, but reathorisation ensures that the statute remains in effect until 2012. The Senate passed PRIA II (S1983) on August 2nd and the House of Representatives approved the bill on September 24th. It comes into effect on October 1st, pending signature by President George Bush....
