Cotton planting is to decrease due to water shortages

Water shortages are expected to result in sharp decreases in plantings of cotton and rice in Australia in 2007/08. However, increased plantings of sorghum and other crops should result in a 36% rise in summer crop plantings to some 1 million ha, according to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural Resource Economics (ABARE). This would represent a partial recovery from the previous year's drought-impacted area of 761,000 ha, but it would still be the second-lowest summer crop area in the past decade....
