The new law aims to ensure a "fair compromise"

The German federal council, the Bundeskabinett, passed the government's law on genetically modified organisms earlier this month. "From next year on, farmers planting GM maize have to adhere to stricter rules," the government comments. The new law aims to ensure a "fair compromise" between the "different interests" of those planting GM crops. Humans and animals are protected from "incalculable influences", while the law prepares ground for further development of GMO technology, the authorities conclude. The new law "mainly" transposes amendments made to it earlier this year (Agrow No 525, p 11), they note. These changes were adopted despite strong industry criticism (Agrow ibid)....
