Bayer CropScience has debuted a fungicide formulation based on its new active ingredient, fluopyram, in Turkey. The country granted registration late last year, and it is the first confirmed product approval for a fungicide based on the active ingredient. The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has proposed the approval of BASF’s fungicide, fluxapyroxad (trade-marked as Xemium), as a new active ingredient for use on barley. Fluxapyroxad received its first approval, in the UK, in October 2011, with further registrations later in the month in France and Germany for use on cereals (Agrow No 627, p 25). The APVMA’s decision is subject to a 28-day public comment period from January 17th.

The US EPA has proposed the approval of four DuPont fungicides based on Mitsui Chemicals’ penthiopyrad. The review was done jointly with authorities in Canada, the UK and Australia. Canadian registrations for penthiopyrad were granted in November 2011 (Agrow No 629, p 25). The US approval decision is open to public comment until February 12th. The US EPA proposes to register a biofungicide and a bactericide based on the fungus, Aureobasidium pullulans, from Austrian company Bio-Ferm (Tulln). Bayer CropScience has presented its new fungicide from the “new” pyridinyl ethylbenzamide class, fluopyram. It is a broad-spectrum fungicide for the control of several diseases, including grey mould (Botrytis cinerea), powdery mildew, Sclerotinia spp and Monilia spp on more than 70 crops, Bayer says.
