Bayer CropScience has received US approval for a new cereal herbicide based on established active ingredients. Huskie Complete (pyrasulfotole + thiencarbazone-methyl + bromoxynil + mefenpyr-diethyl safener) is for the post-emergence control of a range of grasses and broadleaf weeds in spring, winter and durum wheat. It is the first use of thiencarbazone-methyl in a small-grain cereal herbicide, the company points out. The company indicated last year that it was planning to combine the maize ...
Bayer CropScience has debuted a fungicide formulation based on its new active ingredient, fluopyram, in Turkey. The country granted registration late last year, and it is the first confirmed product approval for a fungicide based on the active ingredient. Luna Experience (fluopyram 200 g/litre + tebuconazole 200 g/litre) is a suspension concentrate formulation for use on nine crops, including apples for the control of scab (Venturia inaequalis), on grapevines against powdery mildew (Uncinula ...
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has proposed the approval of BASF’s fungicide, fluxapyroxad (trade-marked as Xemium), as a new active ingredient for use on barley. Fluxapyroxad received its first approval, in the UK, in October 2011, with further registrations later in the month in France and Germany for use on cereals (Agrow No 627, p 25). The APVMA’s decision is subject to a 28-day public comment period from January 17th.
The US company, Ag Logic (Chapel Hill, North Carolina), is to delay the introduction of its insecticide/nematicide, Meymik 15G (aldicarb), until 2013. The December 2011 approval by the EPA did not allow time for introduction for the 2012 North American growing season, the company points out. The EPA proposed the approval of Meymik 15G on a range of crops in November (Agrow No 629, p 26). Numerous farmers and grower groups had called on the EPA to approve the product, following Bayer ...
The US EPA proposes granting the first residential use approval for Makhteshim-Agan Industries’ (MAI) insecticide, novaluron. It aims to register Rimon Supra 10EC as a spot or crack and crevice treatment against crickets. MAI received its first US approval for novaluron on greenhouse ornamentals in 2001 (Agrow No 387, p 26), with food-use approvals following in 2004 (Agrow No 449, p 22). The latest decision is open to public comment until January 27th.
BASF plans to apply for US approval for a new formulation of the herbicide, dicamba, under the Engenia brand this year. It is intended for use on Monsanto’s genetically modified dicamba-tolerant soybeans. “Engenia will be an important new tool for soybean growers battling herbicide-resistant weeds, like Palmer amaranth, waterhemp [both Amaranthus spp] and marestail [Conyzacanadensis],” says Paul Rea, vice-president of BASF’s US crop protection business. Research on advances in dicamba ...
A two-year study by researchers from the US Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana) has identified seed treatment residues in planter exhausts as a previously unrecognised hazard to honeybees . The researchers tested dead bees collected from hives located close to maize fields for the neonicotinoid insecticides, clothianidin and thiamethoxam. They found “extremely” high levels of the insecticides in waste talc exhausted from planting machinery. Lower, sub-lethal levels of the insecticides ...

Scenic is a suspension concentrate formulation for use on wheat for the control of head blight (Fusarium graminearum), bunt (Tilletia caries), loose smut (Ustilago nuda fsp tritici) and yellow leaf spot (Drechslera tritici ...
Bayer CropScience has received US EPA approval for its genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant TwinLink cotton. It is the final regulatory step for the cotton in the US following USDA deregulation last year (Agrow No 626, p 24). TwinLink cotton expresses the Bt Cry1Ab toxin from event T304-40 and the Cry2Ae toxin from event GHB119 for the control of lepidopteran pests such as bollworms (Helicoverpa zea), tobacco budworms (Heliothis virescens) and fall armyworms (Spodoptera ...
DuPont seed subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International has received approval from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for its genetically modified insect-resistant “refuge-in-a-bag” (RIB) maize, Optimum AcreMax XTreme.
