Cotton Breeding Australia joint venture

Australian cotton growers and researchers are to form a cotton breeding joint venture, Cotton Breeding Australia. CSIRO Plant Industry and Cotton Seed Distributors (CSD) will fund breeding and research for an initial ten-year period.
High yielding and stress-tolerant rice developed

High-yielding and stress-tolerant rice lines have been produced with the use of an insertion mutagenesis system by scientists from the National University of Singapore and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Vitamin C necessary for plant growth

The identification of a new enzyme, GDP-L-galactose phosphorylase, which is involved in the production of vitamin C, has allowed scientists from the University of Exeter (UK) and Shimane University (Japan) to engineer plants without the nutrient.
D1 Oils/KeyGene in jatropha biofuel deal

British biodiesel company D1 Oils (Middlesbrough, Teesside) and Dutch genetic research company KeyGene (Wageningen) are to collaborate on a research project on the oil-yielding tree, jatropha.
