Monsanto and the Israeli research company, Evogene (Rehovat), have agreed to collaborate in research to improve nitrogen use efficiency in maize, soybeans, canola and cotton.

Monsanto gains exclusive rights to genes discovered by Evogene that help plants to maintain yield with lower applications of nitrogen. Monsanto will evaluate the use of these genes in its genetically modified crop pipeline. The candidate genes from Evogene complement the nitrogen utilisation genes already in testing at Monsanto, the company says.
