October 2011 Patent Watch (Agrow Intelligence)
Fungicides took the lead in October with 40 published patent applications.
Insecticides followed with 24 and herbicides with 19. There were six
additional patent applications, of which four were related to a
herbicidal/insecticidal composition, two to fungicide/herbicide and another
two to fungicide/insecticide applications. Agrow Intelligence examined a
selection of 91 patent applications published during the month, from a total
of 17 applicants.

Bayer CropScience was in the lead with a total of 38 patent applications, of which 18 were fungicidal, nine herbicidal and six insecticidal in nature, with an additional patent related to a fungicidal/insecticidal composition and four to herbicide/insecticide compositions. Syngenta followed with six herbicidal patents, three fungicidal, two insecticidal and one with both fungicidal and insecticidal purpose. BASF and Dow AgroSciences both followed with 10 patents each in total.

Particular activity was noticed within the patent applications from Dow AgroSciences, with six applications around “fungicidal compositions including hydrazone derivatives and copper”, and from Bayer CropScience on “active compound combinations” of fungicidal nature and another four patent applications around “herbicide/safener compositions”.
