March 2011 Patent Watch
Fungicides took the lead in March 2011 with 39 published patent applications,
and four additional seed treatment-related fungicidal patent applications.
Insecticides followed with 38 applications and herbicides with 24. There
were ten additional patent applications in relation to two different
categories: one fungicide/herbicide; eight fungicides/insecticides; and one
fungicide/plant growth regulator.
Agrow Intelligence examined a selection of 115 patent applications published in March 2011, from a total of 31 various companies and organisations.

Bayer CropScience was in the lead again with 41 published patent applications, of which ten were herbicidal, 14 insecticidal and seven fungicidal in nature, with an additional four seed treatment applications and six related to dual targeted action.
BASF followed with 16 fungicide-related, two insecticide-related and three herbicide-related patents along with a fungicide/insecticide patent application. Syngenta was third in line with a total of ten patent applications published.

Granted patents March 2011
There were 35 granted patents published in March 2011. These patents were filed between 2000 and 2009, with the oldest concerning some herbicidal compositions from Syngenta and the most recent being an “insecticidal n-substituted sulfoximines” composition of matter from Dow AgroSciences.
