September 2010 Patent Watch
Insecticides took the lead this month with 36 patents, herbicides followed
with 29, and fungicides were close behind with 27. There were six additional
patents relevant to dual targeted pest action, of which two were
fungicide/insecticide related, two fungicide/ herbicide, and two
herbicide/insecticide. Several patents were mixture related (44); others
concerned compositions of matter of certain active compounds (48) from
various chemical families. Agrow Intelligence examined a selection of 98
patents in September.

Bayer CropScience was in the lead again with 44 patents, of which 19 were herbicidal, 18 insecticidal and four herbicidal in nature, with another three targeting two classes of pests. Syngenta and BASF were in joint second position, with a total of 14 patents each, and Sumitomo Chemical followed with ten patents. There were 13 companies with published patents this month.

Bayer had four patents published around an insecticidal mixture of a 5H-furan-2-one derivative and an already known insecticide. Syngenta had four patents published that revolved around an insecticidal substituted bisamide derivative.
