to dual targeted pest action, of which three were fungicide/insecticide
related, and one fungicide/ herbicide related. Several patents were mixture
related (31); others concerned compositions of matter of certain active
compounds (49) from various chemical families and a few dealt with
formulations and various methods. Agrow Intelligence examined a selection of
94 patents.

Bayer CropScience was in the lead again with 23 patents, of which 15 were herbicidal, six insecticidal and two fungicidal in nature. BASF followed with ten fungicide related patents, two herbicide and two insecticide related as well as one fungicide/ insecticide and one fungicide/ herbicide. Syngenta had a total of ten patents, DuPont had eight, Dow had seven and Sumitomo Chemical had six. There were 24 companies with published patents this month and a patent for which an assignee could not be determined.

Bayer CropSciences showed particular activity this month with ten patents published around “Selective hetero-aryl-oxy-acetamide based herbicides”. BASF had four patents on “5-mercapto-[1,2,4] triazolyl methyl -cyclo pentanol” compounds of fungicidal nature and three patents on “azolyl-methyl-oxiranes” of fungicidal nature as well.
