November 2010 Patent Watch
Insecticides took the lead in November with 42 published patents. Fungicides
followed close behind with 40 and herbicides with 35. There were 19
additional published patents relevant to dual targeted pest action, of which
three were herbicide/insecticide-related, five were
fungicide/herbicide-related and 11 fungicide/insecticide-related.
Agrow Intelligence examined a selection of 136 patents for the month of November from a total of 22 applicants.

Bayer CropScience was in the lead again with 57 published patents, of which 21 were herbicidal, ten were insecticidal and nine fungicidal in nature, the remaining patents being of a dual nature. Syngenta followed with six fungicide-related patents, seven herbicide-related and seven insecticide-related. Sumitomo Chemical had a total of 16 patents, while Dow AgroSciences had 14 and BASF six. The company with the most activity in dual types of patents was Bayer.

The later showed particular activity this month with six patents published around mixture patents of glyphosate and either strobilurin, triazole, sulphonamide or carboximide active ingredients with fungicidal/herbicidal activity. It also showed activity around a synergistic herbicide combination of ais and a benzoyl-cyclohexane-dione derivative with a total of 12 patents published. Sumitomo had nine patents published around a fungicidal amide compound.
