Insecticides took the lead in June with 45 published patent applications. Fungicides followed with 44 applications and herbicides with 39. There were 15 additional patent applications, of which 14 were related to fungicide/insecticide active ingredients, three to fungicide/herbicides and one about a herbicide/insecticide. Agrow Intelligence examined a selection of 146 patent applications published during the month, from a total of 23 applicants.

Bayer CropScience was in the lead again with 53 published patent applications, of which 16 were fungicidal, seven insecticidal and 19 herbicidal in nature, with an additional 11 related to dual-targeted actions. Syngenta followed with four fungicide-related, 12 insecticide-related and eight herbicide-related patent applications. BASF was third in line with a total of 17 published patent applications, Dow AgroSciences followed with 15 and Sumitomo Chemical had seven.

Particular activity was noticed last month with 11 patent applications around a herbicide composition containing flufenacet from Bayer. Five applications were published around a mixture of fungicidal and insecticidal nature from Bayer. Five applications were also published around an insecticidal compound from Syngenta.

Granted Patents June 2011

There were 33 granted patents published in June 2011. These patents were filed between 1990 and 2009, with the oldest concerning an insecticidal patent from Merial around avermectin derivatives, and the most recent being about Dow’s sulfoximine insecticide.
