Insecticides took the lead in February 2011 with 28 published patent applications. Herbicides followed with 24 and fungicides were close behind with 23. There were seven additional published applications relevant to dual targeted action, of which one was herbicide/insecticide-related, three were fungicide/insecticide-related and three fungicide/herbicide-related. Agrow Intelligence examined a selection of 82 patents published in February 2011 from a total of 24 companies.

Bayer CropScience was in the lead again with 21 published patent applications, of which seven were herbicidal, six insecticidal and four fungicidal in nature, the remaining patents being of a dual nature:fungicide/herbicide (three) and herbicide/insecticide (one). BASF followed with five fungicide-related, one insecticide-related and nine herbicide-related patents. Dow AgroSciences and DuPont both had a total of seven patent applications, Sinochem and Sumitomo Chemical had three each. Syngenta had five patent applications published in February in total.

Granted patents February 2011
There were 32 granted patents published in February 2011. These patents were filed between 1997 and 2010, with the oldest concerning a herbicidal mixture from Bayer and the most recent a “composition for the control of plant pests”, also from Bayer.
