Insecticides followed with 32 and fungicides with 24. There were nine
additional patent applications, of which one was related to a
fungicidal/herbicidal composition, four to fungicides/insecticides and four
to herbicidal/insecticidal compositions. Agrow Intelligence examined a
selection of 99 patent applications published during the month, from a total
of 22 applicants.

Bayer CropScience was in the lead with a total of 27 patent applications, of which ten were fungicidal, ten insecticidal and five herbicidal in nature, with an additional patent related to a fungicidal/insecticidal composition and one more to a herbicide/insecticide composition. Dow AgroSciences and Syngenta followed with 16 patent applications each. Syngenta had an additional two patents in collaboration with Kyoyu Agri. BASF followed with 12 patents, and Sumitomo Chemical with nine.

Particular activity was noticed within the patent applications from BASF last month, with three applications around “substituted pyridines having a herbicidal effect” as well as three applications from Bayer on an “active substance combination containing azadirachtin and a substituted enamino carbonyl compound”, along with three others from Dow on a “synergistic herbicide/insecticide composition containing certain pyridine carboxylic acids and certain insecticides”.
